Promoted by FUB (Fédération française des Usagers de la Bicyclette) and supported by ADEME (Agence de la Transition Ecologique), the Pro-Vélo Employer label recognises employer sites that implement ambitious pro-bike initiatives. The Groupe de Santé Clinifutur is proud to announce that the Clinique Sainte-Clotilde has been awarded GOLD level certification, thanks to a score that enabled it to achieve more than 77% of its objective.
Encouraging all employees, patients, visitors and suppliers to cycle is one of the priorities of the Groupe de Santé Clinifutur mobility initiatives. The Clinique Sainte-Clotilde, which also includes a dialysis centre, a radiology practice, a laboratory and a rehabilitation centre in its health centre, is one of the first clinics to take action on this front, a laboratory and a rehabilitation centre, is now enabling them all to benefit from its pro-bike policy.
As part of its energy transition and environmental impact projects, the CLINIFUTUR Healthcare Group is developing a mobility component. It concerns professionals, patients and visitors. Several inter-company travel plans have been implemented over the last few years and a number of initiatives have been taken to unite professionals around alternatives to the single-occupant car: Testing and setting up shuttles in conjunction with local authorities, discovering public transport and carpooling, teleworking, moving closer to home, walking, cyclingo....
For several years now, the Clinique Sainte-Clotilde has been implementing this change management approach to encourage its employees to reduce the use of solo cars to get to work, relieve congestion on the roads and in the spaces dedicated to parking, and improve user satisfaction. Two car parks are currently available on the site (including one reserved for professionals since 2018). However, as users of the car park find it difficult to access the available spaces on a daily basis, a third car park is being prepared. It will be brought into service with the launch of additional measures to encourage alternatives to the solo car for the clinic's employees (financial mobility support).
With regard to the use of bicycles (and the like) as an alternative to the single-occupant car for home-work journeys, a number of initiatives have been taken by the Group to motivate and support employees at its establishments. For example, there have been two campaigns to provide cash assistance for the purchase of bicycles, with the possibility of a zero-interest employer loan, and with the support of ADEME, which has also enabled the Clinique Sainte-Clotilde to fit out a bicycle room for all the site's employees in 2019. This secure bicycle garage has showers and lockers for the comfort of cyclists, and is equipped with various maintenance tools for on-site bicycle servicing.
To make the most of this commitment, in 2022 the clinic's teams embarked on the Objectif Employeur Pro-Vélo (OEPV) adventure, a programme co-financed by the Energy Saving Certificates (CEE) aimed at supporting private, public and voluntary sector employers in developing a cycling culture. The Clinique Sainte-Clotilde has committed an investment budget of over €28,000 since 2020, partly subsidised by ADEME and the OEPV programme. Thanks to a tailor-made support programme and financial aid, the clinic has been able to introduce equipment and services such as:
- Offer employees workshops (trials of VAE and cargo bikes, getting back in the saddle, etc.) and training courses (cycle safety, etc.);
- Offer maintenance and repair sessions for bicycles and scooters;
- Install additional hoops to improve comfort in the bicycle garage (pegs, towel racks, etc.);
- Draw up a Bicycle Guide (including safety rules) for employees;
- Providing safety kits to cyclists taking part in events.
- Building a 6-place bicycle shelter for visitors;
- And much more.
Following support and an audit based on a set of specifications covering 5 areas (management and strategy, communication and mobilisation, services, safety and equipment), we were awarded GOLD certification, the highest possible level! This result is a real recognition of the work carried out by the clinic's teams to take positive action on the physical and mental well-being of employees and the environment. The Clinifutur Health Group was the first on La Réunion to be awarded this label, for the Clinique Sainte-Clotilde, and is continuing its efforts with the forthcoming award of the label for the Clinique Les Orchidées health centre in Le Port.
In fact, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, cycling brings many benefits to everyone: improved quality of life at work, regular exercise, less stress, shorter journey times and greater flexibility. The average monthly occupancy of the dedicated cycle park for professionals (40 spaces available) has increased significantly: 50 different cyclists per month in 2023, compared with 4 cyclists in 2019. Feedback from users in favour of the changes to the facilities is all very positive, as demonstrated by the testimonial from Mr Guillaume THOMARDEL, Director of Nursing Services: "I've been using the electrically-assisted bike to come to work since September 2022. As I'm not particularly sporty, my daily commute, which is a 30 km round trip with a 600 m gradient, isn't difficult; on the contrary, I find it has a number of advantages: physical fitness, speed of travel, financial savings, a positive ecological feeling, etc. The clinic's facilities are perfect for cyclists."
The clinic's management and teams are continuing to implement the Groupe de Santé Clinifutur's energy transition action plan in order to perpetuate this approach, which includes development and local actions (workshops, repairs and training, etc.).
