The Unscheduled Care Unit (SNP) at the Sainte-Clotilde clinic in the north and the Les Orchidées clinic in the west, which specialises in traumatology, sees more than 25,000 patients every year.

Their long experience in caring for injured adult and child patients, combined with their technical facilities and downstream surgical and follow-up care services, make them services of excellence for trauma patients on Réunion.

Management of common traumas

Every year, these facilities treat more than 3,000 patients with knee or ankle injuries and more than 2,000 patients with wrist, elbow or shoulder injuries, either as a result of their sporting activities or as a result of everyday accidents.

They also treat 2,000 adult and child patients with wounds for exploration and suturing.

Nature of the trauma being treated

  • Ankle injuries are dominated by sprains and fractures of the lateral malleolus.
  • Knee injuries often involve fractures, lateral ligament sprains, ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscal tears
  • Shoulder injuries are generally represented by acromioclavicular disjunctions, clavicle fractures and rotator cuff injuries
  • Elbow and wrist injuries are generally fractures or sprains.

More than 150 dislocations and displaced fractures are reduced in these departments, and more than 300 patients are referred to one of the Group's orthopaedic surgeons for surgery each year.

Complementary medical expertise

Doctors specialising in interventional ultrasound are able to carry out ultrasound scans on trauma patients and perform infiltrative procedures (cortisone, Visco supplementation).

Sports doctors working as part of the unscheduled care team are able to treat patients with non-traumatic sports pathologies and carry out fitness tests for over-classifications.

Collaboration with the sports community

Partnerships with sports clubs and committees in the area enable sportspeople to be monitored and acute and chronic conditions to be managed.
