HAND SURGERY UNIT at the Les Orchidées Clinic

The Clinique Les Orchidées is pleased to announce the opening of its Hand Surgery Unit on 17 March at its premises in Avenue Lénine - Le Port. The unit treats patients with hand and wrist injuries: wounds and infections of the hand and fingers, fractures and ligament injuries of the fingers and wrist.

Urgent and specialized treatment of hand injuries

Any wound or trauma to the hand or fingers must be considered potentially serious until proven otherwise. It is with this in mind that the rapid and specialised care network has been set up, run by emergency trauma physicians in direct liaison with two specialist orthopaedic surgeons.

The service is open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, without appointment.

Coordination between emergency and hand specialists

The new structure is based on :

  • Emergency traumatologists in the clinic's Unscheduled Care Unit (accessed via avenue Lénine) provide direct access to patients with trauma emergencies (including hand emergencies) from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
  • Trauma emergencies dealt with by the Hand Surgery Unit are dealt with during the same hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm) from the Unscheduled Care Unit via a direct link with two specialist orthopaedic hand surgeons. Surgical availability is organised in the operating theatre, with slots dedicated specifically to hand surgery.
  • At the same time, specialist advice is available to healthcare professionals via Omnidoc.

While emergency services are still essential for continuity of care, it is proposed that, in addition, patients who may be referred to the Hand Surgery Unit via Unscheduled Care can be cared for. At the end of the treatment, the patient's report is sent to their GP or the GP who referred them.

A modern unit at the heart of Les Orchidées clinic

The Hand Surgery Unit is ideally located on the ground floor of the new Clinique Les Orchidées building, with direct access from Avenue Lénine via the Unscheduled Care Department. The department benefits from modern, spacious premises that are accessible to people with reduced mobility, and whose design has been studied to minimise environmental impact (roof and façade insulation, reduced solar gain, natural ventilation, air fans, solar hot water, efficient air conditioning and lighting, etc.).

The experience of the practitioners in this department, combined with the skills of the structure's specialists and those of our partners, brings real gains in efficiency to patient care. Our main aim is to provide a high-quality medical service to the people of Reunion, with safe care and short waiting times.
