‘What we offer is a fluid care pathway. Patients come without an appointment, are welcomed, have their examinations, receive the necessary treatment and see the specialist if necessary, and can then go home. That's not to say that there won't be a wait, but the turnaround time, which can vary depending on the case, is less, averaging 45 minutes.’ . The teams emphasise the proximity and direct access from the department to the radiology department, which represents a significant time saving for the trauma department.
The Unscheduled Care Unit at the Sainte-Clotilde and Les Orchidées clinics has extensive experience in caring for injured adult and child patients, with more than 25,000 patients treated each year. The interventional ultrasound specialists in the unscheduled care medical team are able to perform ultrasound scans on trauma patients and carry out infiltrative procedures (cortisone, Visco supplementation). The team's sports doctors carry out medical monitoring of sportsmen and women, whom they also welcome for acute or chronic non-traumatic sports pathologies and aptitude tests for higher rankings.
Unscheduled care also benefits from the expertise of the many specialists working within the establishment, such as the new Hand Surgery Unit at the Clinique Les Orchidées, which is accessible to the whole population and whose rapid care is provided by 2 specialist hand surgeons. The unit treats patients with hand and wrist injuries such as fractures and ligament injuries of the fingers and wrist, as well as wounds and infections of the hand and fingers. This service represents a major addition to the range of care available throughout the region.
As with any treatment, a report is given to the patient after a visit to the Unscheduled Care Unit or the Hand Surgery Unit, or sent by secure messaging system to the patient's GP. This informs the patient of the diagnosis, any examinations carried out and the care provided.
The experience of the practitioners in these departments, combined with the skills of the structure's specialists and those of our partners, brings real gains in efficiency to patient care. Our main aim is to provide a high-quality medical service to the people of Reunion, with safe care and short waiting times.
